An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was recorded by the INGV in the Parma area, 5 kilometers from Calestano, on the slopes of the Apennines in Val Baganza.
An earthquake swarm is underway in the area with at least a hundred tremors since the day before yesterday.
At the moment there has been no damage to people or things.
The shock was also clearly felt in the city of Parma
, even on the lower floors of the buildings.
In the municipalities of Felino Marzolara and Calestano people on the streets for a few minutes, including occupants of public buildings.
Curiously, the epicenter corresponds to a well-known pizzeria in the town of Marzolara, a few meters from the bridge over the Baganza stream.
At the moment there are no reports of damage to things or people.
The mayor of Parma, Michele Guerra, has
activated the Alert System for the population

"At 1.06pm a stronger tremor was felt in the city (4.1, magnitude later revised to 4.2 - ed.) than the others, which however did not cause damage to property or people - we read in the alert - We are keeping the situation monitored together with the Civil Protection and the bodies responsible for emergencies. We invite you to follow the specific rules of conduct that you find on the Civil Protection website".
Since February 7, the national seismic network has been recording a series of seismic events located in the province of Parma, in particular in the municipalities of Langhirano, Calestano, Fornovo di Taro.
At 1.06 pm the strongest event so far was recorded, with a magnitude of 4.2 (revised compared to the first data of 4.1) with an epicenter near Calestano.
At the moment (2pm), INGV informs,
121 tremors
have been recorded .
The hypocentral depths are on average around 18-20 kilometers, with events reaching even greater depths.
So far the largest magnitude tremors occurred on the afternoon of February 7 (3.4), last night (3.4) and at 1pm today (4.2).
The area affected by the ongoing sequence, explain the seismologists, has a well-known historical seismicity and in which it is possible to recognize events with similar characteristics, even if they had higher magnitudes.
A well-documented earthquake occurred on March 4, 1898, with an estimated magnitude of 5.4, felt across much of northern Italy.
In more recent times, other earthquakes in the area were that of 9 November 1983, which occurred between Parma and Langhirano, with a magnitude of 5.0 and above all that of 23 December 2008, located just south-east of the current sequence, with a magnitude of 5.4.
"Sequences of this type are common in the northern Apennines, as well as in many other regions of Italy. Statistically, most of them end after a few days or a few weeks, but in some cases they can last longer, especially in cases in which a stronger earthquake occurs. The area affected by the current sequence is located in a band of medium seismic danger and is not far from the areas of the northern Apennines characterized by very high danger, such as those of the Val di Taro and the Garfagnana".
