The groundbreaking ceremony for a new motel and boarding house took place at the Tonwerk site in Dorfen.

The first guests are expected to be accommodated in four months.

Dorfen – Construction work for a new hotel and boarding house on the Tonwerk site in Orlfing now begins with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony.

The “Timber One Motel” should accommodate its first guests in four months at the latest.

From booking to checkout, everything will be done digitally, so that even last-minute guests can check in around the clock.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the “Timber One Motel” at the Tonwerk site in Dorfen: accommodation for guests planned in four months

The Tonwerk with its gastronomy is now a popular location for large celebrations, far beyond the district borders.

Last year alone, 26 weddings took place on Dorfen's party mile, and this year there will be even more, says David Ritter, who has been managing director of Tonwerk GmbH in Dorfen for two years.

There are also seminars, further training and company events - with the Alte Schlosserei and the Heizwerk Club a “broad portfolio is offered here,” said Ritter.

Now the only thing missing is adequate accommodation: “Because the future is up here.”

Robert Decker, who owns the site and is developing a new district on the former Meindl site, is of course involved.

The “Timber One” motel will be built entirely out of wood and in modular construction and will cost six million euros.

53 rooms in eight different categories are offered here, from suites to simple double rooms for fitters.

The price range is from 79 to 117 euros per night for two people.

All rooms are modernly equipped, including a kitchenette.

The building here is sustainable and geared towards the future.

Because the modules are not particularly heavy, there is no need for huge foundations, explained Decker at the groundbreaking ceremony.

That's why 30 prefabricated concrete parts, each 16 meters long, were sawn out of the old clay hall.

Under the keyword “re-use” these concrete parts are put to a new use, he explained about the motel and boarding house.

And because the building is located directly next to the railway, it is placed on “Sylomer bearings” so that possible vibrations are decoupled.

This is an attempt to avoid difficulties once the railway is expanded and the trains run faster.

For larger events, when many guests are staying at the hotel, a breakfast buffet in the neighboring Mogli's can also be booked, explained Markus Friedl, who has been running other hotels in the city for the Decker group since 2017.

The hotel headquarters is located in the Marienhof.

“There are no visible employees - an advantage given the current personnel shortage.”

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Dorfen's third mayor, Sven Krage, was enthusiastic. After all, many young people from all over the district, some even from Munich, would be celebrating at the Tonwerk on the weekends and could spontaneously stay overnight in the new hotel: “Sometimes it's better that “To leave the car parked.”

In general, Decker is a “courageous investor” who is developing Dorfen step by step, says Krage, with a view to converting the former industrial area into a modern residential area.

“A city the size of a village can tolerate two different centers.”

Ludwig Rudolf, 2nd mayor, particularly praised the cultural development of the Tonwerk, where he sees the new hotel as a further building block for the “Dorfen cultural location”: “We have now left Erding behind,” said the Dorfen cultural officer happily.
