"Violence against women is a plague of exceptional gravity, which we must continue to fight firmly and without any concession on all fronts. The issue is there for all to see and no one can say they are not touched by the responsibility for what happens to us around. As rector of this University I guarantee maximum attention to cases that may occur, to reports and the necessary intransigence".

Thus

the rector of the University of Turin Stefano Geuna

.

"It is urgent to take increasingly severe measures against those who have engaged in harassment and abuse, violating the fundamental rights and dignity of the person."

"The University - continues the rector Geuna in a statement to ANSA - must be a safe place and perceived as such, with all the tools made available by the university system. At the same time, it is necessary to multiply the efforts aimed at the construction and diffusion of a new culture, because educating - as well as training - is one of the tasks of the University.

The future of our society is built here and we do not want to give up this fundamental function in any way".

Female students, more reports from Philosophy

I don't want to talk about numbers, also because just one case "would be serious".

The girls of the transfeminist movement "Non una di meno", who a few days ago reported

the harassment that allegedly occurred within the university faculties of Turin

, explain from the reports collected in a questionnaire sent on Whatsapp to students, teachers and researchers.

"There is a pyramid of violence - they explain - there are those that are higher up, at the top, such as rapes and feminicides and then there are those that fuel the pyramid of violence. We are talking about the jokes continually made by professors , as comrades. These are all reports that we do not report one by one, but which are all equally serious, because they still fuel this culture."

As far as reports are concerned, they come from all departments, one of those most under the spotlight would be Philosophy, as Non una di meno confirms.

"It is truly a global figure, in the sense that all philosophy departments are the departments that receive the most harassment, that is, the most reports of harassment, violence, because they are predominantly made up of men - the feminists underline -. In Turin we have three ordinary professors and all the rest are men. This then also perpetrates on the students who then become teachers and therefore it is a chain."
