The former mayor in prison and a deficit of 1.5 million for the municipality!
For a week, the atmosphere has been heavy in Saint-Jory (Haute-Garonne), a town of 7,300 inhabitants located north of Toulouse, whose new municipal team must turn the page on the affairs of its former councilor and urgently find funds to redress the accounts.
On February 1, the former mayor, Thierry Fourcassier, was placed in pre-trial detention and indicted for corruption, money laundering and illegal taking of interest.
Justice suspects him of having received bribes and benefited from nearly a million euros in travel by real estate developers, in exchange for signing building permits.

Faced with the critical situation facing the city, the new mayor, elected in December 2023, Victor Denouvion, suspended current real estate projects on February 5 and wants to make up for the delay in public facilities.
“I am calm and my job is to restore the confidence of the residents and to straighten out the accounts,” he assures.
This involves freezing the construction of nearly 1,500 housing units which were to be built.
These projects were to be submitted but they will be refused to the promoters.
There are still projects awarded by the former mayor on which we have requested suspension in order to verify whether they are not the subject of embezzlement.
