Can a walking and cycling path over a distance of a good 100 meters cost 235,000 euros?
Yes, because it should comply with the technical regulations, according to the majority in the Holzkirchner market town council.

– In order to protect the new extension of the Kinderland daycare center from traffic noise, the market town of Holzkirchen is building a noise barrier that is almost 60 meters long and 2.70 meters high on Rosenheimer Straße.
The pedestrian and cycle path, which currently ends in front of the town entrance when coming from the direction of Föching, is also to be extended parallel to the street.
But it was precisely on this 100 meter long section that a heated discussion broke out at the most recent local council meeting.
235,000 euros are estimated for the construction of the path, which Josef Sappl Sr.
made me believe there was a typographical error, as he explained angrily.
Regarding the expensive substructure, Sappl asked: “Do I have to construct a cycle path as if tanks were driving over it?” He thinks it is “unaffordable” to spend so much money on it.

Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU), however, argued that the municipality could not deviate from the rules with its eyesight.
“We try to build properly here in the house,” he emphasized.
And: “Here is a born half-Swabian who knows how to handle money.”
Simon Ammer (SPD) shared this opinion.
“Yes, it takes your shoes off,” he summarized in relation to the costs, which, including the noise barrier (100,000 euros) and additional costs (51,500 euros), add up to 386,500 euros.
In the past, you would get a quarter of a daycare center for that, he said.
However, the community needs the path and the noise barrier.
He therefore sees no possibility of abandoning the building.
Because Ammer also didn't want to mess around with his sighted eyes, he explained: "We have to swallow this toad - even if it is an expensive toad." Robert Wiechmann (Greens) also recalled that the noise barrier was also due to the fact that The property is used optimally.
Construction is expected to start in May
So that the children don't have to stand in front of gray concrete on the other side of the wall, a wooden frame should be placed on the base, which can also be covered with greenery, as Michael Wohlschläger (CSU) asked.
16,500 euros have been budgeted for this further design;

Despite the high costs, at the end of the discussion there was a broad majority in favor of building the noise barrier and the footpath and cycle path.
With two dissenting votes, the committee first approved the draft plan, then authorized Schmid to commission further engineering services and commissioned the administration with the procurement process for the construction itself. Schmid is allowed to conclude the construction contracts himself as long as they do not exceed the cost calculation by more than 15 percent.
Construction is expected to begin in May.
The trees have to give way along the route.
