Placed in pre-trial detention on Thursday, the perpetrator of the attack on February 6 which left two people injured, in the north of Loire-Atlantique, turned out to be well known to the courts, with 13 convictions on his criminal record.

The perpetrator of the knife attack in Sion-les-Mines, in the north of Loire-Atlantique, was referred to the Nantes public prosecutor's office on Thursday and then placed in pre-trial detention by the judge of freedoms.

Aged 49, the man was arrested on Tuesday, a few hours after a stabbing attack on the night of Monday to Tuesday.

Two victims, a 50-year-old man and his 25-year-old son, had to be urgently transported to the Nantes and Rennes University Hospitals.

The Loire-Atlantique gendarmerie mobilized significant resources to find the perpetrator of the attack, including a helicopter and three dog teams.

Briefly placed in police custody after his arrest, the suspect had to be released Tuesday evening by the police due to a medical emergency.

He is an unemployed person, originally from Sion-les-Mines and very well known to the justice system, the Nantes public prosecutor's office said on Friday.

A multi-repeat offender profile

“His record includes 13 convictions, for various acts: fraud, theft, use and trafficking of drugs, traffic offenses and a conviction for acts of violence, in 2012,”

said the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul.

The suspect admitted to being the perpetrator of the stabbings.

As a repeat offender, prosecuted for willful violence with weapons, the defendant faces a sentence of 10 years' imprisonment.

The lives of two victims are no longer in danger.

The most injured person was given 21 days of temporary work interruption;

compared to 2 days for the second.

The two men were accompanied by a woman who was not physically harmed during the attack.

The circumstances of this outbreak of violence, however, remain as vague as ever in the eyes of investigators.

“The reason for the altercation is discussed

,” the public prosecutor simply commented – specifying, however, that the entire group was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The defendant will be tried on March 14 at the Nantes criminal court.
