Highlights: Ministry: Promote dentists and pharmacies in rural areas. There is a risk of undersupply not only in rural regions, but also in Erfurt. The reason is that dentists are retiring and cannot find a successor. For every unoccupied practice there would be an average of 1,680 seeking patients. The maximum funding amount has been increased from 20,000 to 40,000 euros. The Statutory Health Insurance Dentists Association recently warned of an undersupply of dentists and called for more support.

There is a financial injection from the state for branches.

Erfurt - Anyone who sets up shop as a dentist or pharmacist in rural areas can receive a financial injection from the state.

The branch support also applies to pharmacies and dental practices, said Thuringia's Health Minister Heike Werner (Left) on Friday.

Previously it was only available to general and specialist practices.

1.4 million euros would be available for the 2024 financial year.

The maximum funding amount has been increased from 20,000 to 40,000 euros.

The ministry had already informed about the changes at the end of last year.

Criticism of previously “restrictive funding”

Most recently, the Statutory Health Insurance Dentists Association (KZV) in Thuringia demanded that the state government “change its restrictive funding for branches”.

There is a risk of undersupply not only in rural regions, but also in Erfurt.

The reason is that dentists are retiring and cannot find a successor.

For every unoccupied practice there would be an average of 1,680 seeking patients.

“Comprehensive and needs-based health care in Thuringia is a central concern of the Thuringian state government,” said Werner, according to a statement.

In addition to a comprehensive range of general practices and specialist practices, this also includes, above all, dental and orthodontic care.

Funding can be applied for both for setting up a new practice and for taking over a practice.
