Sea levels are rising.
This also endangers islands and halls in the North Sea.
A new protection concept is to be researched for the Halligen.
Husum - Better protection of the Halligen when sea levels rise is to be researched in an international project.
It's about combining nature conservation, biodiversity and climate adaptation, said Luisa Rieth from the State Office for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Protection (LKN.SH) on Wednesday.
Among other things, the aim is to investigate by the end of 2025 how the Halligen can grow with rising sea levels and at the same time reduce erosion on the edges.
Every flood deposits sediment on the Halligen, but so far more on the edges than in the middle.
According to the state company, one question is how sedimentation can be better controlled.
Information events and workshops start on February 22nd.
The first stop is Nordstrandischmoor.
