The express bus line X920 from the Großhadern Clinic via Krailling, the KIM and Gilching to Fürstenfeldbruck will be discontinued at the end of the year.

The eastern shore lines on Lake Starnberg, on the other hand, are expected to remain in place beyond 2025, with some changes to line names and routes.

District - The debates on this year's budget have shown that the willingness in the Starnberg district to maintain or even expand the public transport offering at today's level is dwindling.

In view of the tense budgetary situation, every bus route is examined closely, at the latest when a new tender for the route operation is pending.

Two district council committees discussed such tenders again on Tuesday and Thursday.

On the one hand, it was about the so-called east bank line bundle.

Today's lines 904, 961, 974 and 975 will essentially be retained, but will be partially renamed and split into several lines.

As part of the redesign, there should be improved connections to districts in some places.

The offer is to be reduced on some sections that are also served by other lines.

Like the advisory mobility committee on Tuesday, the decisive district committee also voted unanimously on Thursday to re-tender the operation for eight more years from December 2025 with the changes proposed by the administration.

The X920 express bus from the Großhadern Clinic via Krailling and Gilching to Fürstenfeldbruck was also discussed in the meetings.

As suggested by the district administration, a majority of the respective committee members voted to stop operations at the end of the year.

X920

Last week, the mayors of Krailling and Gilching, Rudolph Haux and Manfred Walter, once again emphasized in the Merkur interview how important they consider the X920 to be.

Nevertheless, District Administrator Stefan Frey has now put the abolition of the line up for debate in the committees.

And not at the end of 2025, as was being considered due to ongoing funding from higher levels, but at the end of this year.

Frey explained to the mobility committee that the district would have to pay back funding amounting to a quarter of a million euros if the line introduced in March 2020 was discontinued again at the end of 2024.

On the other hand, there would be costs for the district of more than one million euros annually from 2025.

Frey called the line, which connects, among other things, the KIM commercial areas in Krailling and the Gewerbepark Süd in Gilching with the U 6 in Großhadern as well as the S-Bahn lines S 8 in Gilching-Argeldried and S4 in Fürstenfeldbruck, a “luxury offer”. I don't think it's justifiable given the amount of money.

The connections are ensured by other lines, even if the journey times are slightly longer.

Gilching is still connected to the subway via the X910 and to the S 6 via the X900 to Starnberg. Only the Waghäusl, Talhofstraße and Gutenbergstraße stops would lose their express bus connection.

The connection to the S 4 in Fürstenfeldbruck will no longer be available anyway, as the Fürstenfeldbruck district has now officially announced that it will stop financing the X920 at the end of the year and the bus would only run to Gilching.

A new route for the X910, which runs between Großhadern Hospital and Weßling, is intended to make up for some of the lost connections.

The line should be extended from Weßling to Geltendorf anyway and thus become a nationally important line.

This means that 50 percent of the costs would be borne by the Free State.

However, this involves requirements for the number of stops and the minimum average speed.

This limits route planning.

Starting the KIM would probably mean too much of a detour, explained Frey.

However, a connection to the Kraillingen local area is being considered.

Then, after stopping in Gauting, the X910 would drive to Krailling and from there on to the Großhadern Clinic.

Forst Kasten would no longer be approached for this.

With a vote of 9:3, the committee voted to discontinue the X920 at the end of the year.

Tim Weidner (SPD) was one of the few advocates of the line.

It is “very, very important for KIM and the South Industrial Park” in Gilching.

The majority of opinions in the district committee did not change either.

Krailling's mayor Rudolph Haux had tried again since Tuesday to persuade both the district administrator and the district councilors.

The Gilching Greens argued in a press release on Wednesday that the loss of the

But the proposal submitted on Thursday by Green district councilor Martina Neubauer to win an operating company with a new tender at least for 2025 did not receive a majority of 4:9.

The administration's proposed resolution to phase out the line at the end of the four-year trial operation in December 2024 was passed by a vote of 9:4.

Apart from the Greens, only Christian Winkelmeier (SPD) in the district committee voted for a tender for another year.

Winkelmeier criticized the fact that the district councilors were given the decision at very short notice.

He called for a fundamental discussion about where the district wanted to go with its bus system.

Otherwise there is a risk that “from tender to tender we will cancel the bus with the worst performance until we no longer have a bus system.”

The administration had previously stated that the X 920 had the lowest utilization of all the X buses in the district.

According to counts, there are an average of 49 people getting on or off at KIM in the morning and afternoon.

The KIM's quick connection to the subway was one of Mayor Rudolph Haux's main arguments for preserving the X 920.

In the district committee, several district councilors did not consider this important enough in view of the future costs of the line - around one million euros annually, according to District Administrator Frey.

The suggestion by Britta Hundesrügge (FDP) to postpone the decision in order to give Krailling time to talk about co-financing was also not accepted.

Frey said he also doesn't expect Krailling to want to raise the several hundred thousand euros involved.

East bank lines

The opinion in the mobility committee and the district committee was clear regarding the extension and restructuring of the east bank lines.

The district administration's proposal was unanimously approved.

Essentially, there will be the following changes from the end of 2025: Line 904 will then run hourly as line 972 from Starnberg Nord via Wangen and Hohenschäftlarn to Schäftlarn Monastery.

In addition, amplifiers for school transport are to be introduced.

Line 961 will run under the new name 971 every hour on all weekdays from Münsing to Starnberg, but no longer just to Nord station, but to See station.

Ammerland will continue to be served every two hours.

The regular trips should be supplemented by student trips.

Line 974, which now runs different routes depending on the day of the week and time of day, is to be divided into lines 973 and 974 for better clarity of the timetable; line 975 is to take over some of the journeys with a changed route.

Line 973 will run every two hours Monday to Friday from Berg via Farchach, Bachhausen, Bachhauserwies and Walchstadt to Icking to the S 7.

A two-hour cycle from Monday to Friday is planned for line 974 from Berg Grafstrasse via Farchach and Mörlbach to Icking.

The 975 bus currently runs from the S 7 in Wolfratshausen via Höhenrain and Berg to the S 6 in Starnberg.

The route partially overlaps with the X970.

That is why some double-served stops on the 975 will no longer be served from December 2025.

At the same time, new stops are planned for the 975 in Höhenrain and Bachhausen as well as in Mörlbach for individual trips.

The line thus takes over part of the function of the 974. Trips of the 975 between Höhenrain and Wolfratshausen on the weekend are no longer considered necessary because of the X970, only on weekdays for school traffic.

In Starnberg, the 975 should end at Nord station, as the 974 then goes to See station.

Student transport

The district office is currently working on improvements as a result of the most recent timetable adjustment in December.

New routes led to unexpected delays.

As a result, students repeatedly missed their connections in the morning.

It became apparent that individual trips on various lines in the areas of Tutzing, Herrsching, Gauting and Starnberg needed to be optimized, according to the district administration's mobility committee.

Trips on lines 902, 921, 958, 963 and 969 could have already been adjusted.

Trip adjustments on lines 902, 950 and 951 in the Starnberg area are in coordination with the MVV.

A change to the carnival holidays is desired.
