A fatal accident took place Thursday evening, shortly before 10 p.m., in Gare du Nord.
A man unexpectedly crossed the tracks of platforms 12 and 13. The individual in question then climbed onto a train of a “Eurostar” TGV parked at track 14 leaving for England, before finding himself on the roof of the wagon, we learned from a police source.
The victim died of electrocution following the formation of an electric arc between his body and the catenary.
The scene was entirely filmed by surveillance cameras from the Ile-de-France networks located at the scene.
In the footage, the victim can be seen standing up before his body caught fire.
Arriving quickly on site, firefighters were able to put out the flames around 10:20 p.m.
Despite the intervention of emergency services, the victim was declared dead within a quarter of an hour.
However, the identity of the deceased could not be identified due to the severe burns.
The railway brigade was seized of the investigation and the first elements of the investigations nevertheless made it possible to establish that the victim was a migrant, specifies a source close to the case.
The accident did not cause any disruption to rail traffic.
A man had already suffered the same tragic fate a few years ago and it is not uncommon for other migrants to find themselves seriously injured while trying to cross the border on the roof of a Eurostar.
