At the beginning of the year, the additional contribution to statutory health insurance increased.
Pensioners have not yet felt the increase.
Berlin – At the beginning of the year, numerous health insurance companies increased their contributions again.
The additional contributions from statutory insurers rose by an average of 1.7 percent, although the increases varied depending on the fund.
However, some insurance companies decided against an increase.
There was a pleasant surprise for pensioners when the first pension was paid out in January 2024: it seemed as if the fund contributions had not increased.
This is due to a special regulation for pension recipients, as the German Pension Insurance (DRV) has now announced.
The increase for legally insured pensioners will only come into force two months later.
Increase in health insurance contributions only from March 2024
For this group, the additional contribution only increases from March, which means that the monthly pension payment only decreases from this point onwards.
This is stipulated by law.
Changes in the health insurance contribution, both decreases and increases, always only affect pension payments two months later.
Health insurance contributions will have increased in 2024 for everyone with statutory health insurance.

Pensioners can see changes in their pension payments based on health insurance contributions on their account statement.
Only in exceptional cases, such as if the pension is transferred to another person's account, does the pension insurance company send written notifications.
The additional contribution is added to the general contribution rate set by law and can vary from insurance company to insurance company.
Although the Federal Ministry of Health sets the average additional contribution for the following year each autumn based on an expert estimate, each health insurance company has the right to decide for itself on the actual amount.
