The carnival parade in Mammendorf attracts several thousand spectators every year.

But because the cars are getting wider and the fools on the side of the road are becoming more and more numerous, there is now a change.

Mammendorf - The oncoming train has been canceled, so there is no longer any oncoming traffic.

On Shrove Tuesday the route only runs from west to east for the first time.

Last year, 6,000 visitors watched the carnival parade in Mammendorf.

“That was a big challenge for our community of almost 5,000 souls,” says cultural officer Anton Fasching, looking back.

A special feature in Mammendorf was always that you saw the wagons twice: “For as long as we can remember, the Gaudiwurm has rolled through the village from west to east, turns around at the mini roundabout and then moves through the village again in return,” says Fasching.

The route ends at the mini roundabout

Now it is over.

Over the years the cars have become wider and the bodies have become higher and higher.

The huge tractors that pull the cars also pose a danger. In addition, Augsburger Straße is not very wide.

Award canceled after boos

We had been looking for another solution for a long time.

“We don’t want to tempt fate,” says carnival organization manager.

After a meeting with representatives of the police, district administration and public order office, it was decided: the counter move has been cancelled.

The local council also agreed to this.

So on Tuesday it only goes from west to east through the village, and the train breaks up at the mini roundabout.

The start is also a little later, namely 2.30 p.m. in the Oberdorf in front of St. Nikolaus.

Then we go to the mini roundabout on Augsburger Straße.

“There the cars can turn north onto Michael-Aumüller-Straße or straight ahead onto Bahnhofstraße,” explains Fasching.

All participants must then be off the wagons.

By the way, 22 motif cars and ten foot groups are registered.

There are more awards after problems in previous years.

Anton Fasching reports on unpleasant scenes.

He was even booed when the results were announced in 2023.

“I don’t have to put myself through that.” A neutral committee consisting of the mayor, three club representatives and him as cultural officer made a decision independently of one another.

But if it ends like this, it's better to forego it.

120 kilograms of candies

Compared to last year, there were no difficulties ordering sweets this year.

“We receive 120 kilograms,” says Anton Fasching.

The final sweep will take place for the second time in a warehouse owned by local council member and farmer Martin Neheider.

The hall can accommodate 1,000 visitors and entry costs five euros, including for train participants.

“The costs are around 10,000 euros,” explains Fasching.

“We have to charge admission.

The community cannot take on this.” However, the train participants receive a “yellow wristband” and are given priority in the hall.

Last year, almost 2,000 people celebrated at the sweepstakes - those who didn't have room inside had fun outside.

Local associations take over the serving and catering.

14 security guards will ensure that the party doesn't get out of hand.

Anton Fasching announces when the fun is over: “It’s definitely over at zero o’clock.”
