Gröbenzell - The deterrence measures against the rook population will start again in Gröbenzell at the beginning of February: A falconer will start his work and, with the help of his specially trained bird of prey, will help ensure that the rooks leave their nesting locations.
This is intended to prevent them from breeding in settlement areas.
So that the planned measures can be successful and the rooks do not spread to other areas in the settlement area, the municipality of Gröbenzell asks all citizens to report if crow's nests appear in other places.
This can be done by email to Umwelt@groebenzell.de or by telephone at 08142 505 283 or 895. A rook nest can be recognized by its nest location, which is usually at the crown of deciduous trees, and by the fact that several nests are close to each other.
Individual nests, on the other hand, are not a problem because they are usually carrion crows that do not breed in colonies.
In 2023 the deterrence went well
The rook is black from head to toe, but the plumage has a metallic bluish to violet shimmer.
The most important identifying feature is the gray-white base of the beak without feathers.
The beak is relatively straight and pointed.
Under no circumstances should rooks be fed.
The first breeding rooks were reported in Gröbenzell in 2021.
In 2022, the community recorded an increase to a total of 66 nests on Ammersee Strasse and Rathausstrasse.
This had led to conflicts with residents, which is why the local council decided to take part in the deterrence measures approved by the government of Upper Bavaria.
The deterrence measures in the 2023 breeding season were also successful thanks to the reports from the citizens of Gröbenzell.
The goal of keeping the local area free of rooks was achieved - apart from one breeding pair.
Deterrence in areas remote from settlements
In the long term, the aim is to scare away the rooks from populated areas to areas further away from settlements.
However, the establishment and protection of such a resettlement is a prerequisite for this.
If rooks settle in unproblematic areas to breed, they should under no circumstances be disturbed there.
