Highlights: The NGG union complains about unfilled training positions, especially in the food industry in the Erding district. 14 percent of 20 to 34 year olds in Bavaria do not have a professional qualification. Young people who have no more than a secondary school leaving certificate are becoming less and less likely to make the leap into training. Starting this summer, there will also be tailwind from Berlin for young people: “The Bundestag has decided on a training guarantee. Anyone who has not found a training position in a company has the right to training outside the company,” says NGG Rosenheim-Oberbayern.

District – Shortage of young talent: The training market in the Erding district is under pressure.

The food-pleasure-restaurants union has pointed this out.

According to the NGG, the employment agency in the district registers 109 unfilled training positions - including in the food industry.

“We have a shortage of trainees.

At the same time, 14 percent of 20 to 34 year olds in Bavaria do not have a professional qualification.

A phenomenon that also affects many young people in the Erding district.

This means they don’t have the best prospects on the job market – including when it comes to wages,” says Manuel Halbmeier.

The managing director of NGG Rosenheim-Oberbayern relies on information from the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB).

The union fears a “dangerous trend”: young people who have no more than a secondary school leaving certificate are becoming less and less likely to make the leap into training.

“It is important that these young people are supported more intensively.

They have to be made fit for training,” says Halbmeier.

Employment agencies, job centers and companies should now shift into high gear when it comes to supporting young people's training.

Companies should rely on “trainee pilots”.

“They would have to actively work to get to young people in the first place.

Then it's about getting them excited about apprenticeships.

And if, for example, young people have difficulties learning, this can also mean that the company has to offer tutoring for three years.

Because the workload that the vocational schools have is overwhelming for many young people,” says Manuel Halbmeier from the NGG Rosenheim-Oberbayern.

The economy in the Erding district needs to prepare better for the new training year.

It is fundamentally necessary to do more for the next generation of job seekers.

“It starts with recognizing the potential that lies in a young person,” says Halbmeier.

Starting this summer, there will also be tailwind from Berlin for young people: “The Bundestag has decided on a training guarantee.

From August, young people will be entitled to training.

Anyone who has not found a training position in a company has the right to training outside the company,” says Manuel Halbmeier.

Training in a company – i.e. “in the middle of your working life” – is of course more attractive.

That is why the NGG Rosenheim-Oberbayern is also in favor of a pay-as-you-go training guarantee.

“All companies pay into a fund.

Anyone who provides training will then have a large part of the costs reimbursed from this training pot - for example for the remuneration that trainees receive," explains Manuel Halbmeier.
