The major expansion and renovation of the Marie Pettenbeck School in Wartenberg will last over a decade and, according to current cost estimates, will cost around 40 million euros.

It is still unclear when the gradual work will begin.

It is already clear that they are coming, but too late to alleviate the acute lack of space at the primary and middle schools.

That's why we're now working on a transitional solution that should be ready for the start of the 2024/25 school year in September.

Wartenberg – The first ideas were discussed in the market council on Wednesday.

“The middle school has reached its capacity limits this year,” writes the local administration in the table template to the council.

This happened “quicker than expected,” which is why additional classrooms would have to be provided for the coming school year.

A first rough draft by planner Franz Pezold shows a single-story solution with three classrooms next to each other.

The whole thing is planned to the west of the Strogenhalle, so that “there is no collision with the upcoming school expansion and renovation,” according to the administration.

“We need space,” Mayor Christian Pröbst (CSU) also made clear.

Before Easter there will be a larger, non-public meeting in the Strogenhalle to discuss property issues.

Of course, the other communities of Langenpreising, Berglern and Fraunberg, which are involved through the middle school or school association, are also on board.

According to Pröbst, they will also be presented with the plans.

It is currently not clear what kind of interim solution will come.

“Maybe we could build it so that it becomes a module made of wood that can later be used for a cafeteria, an extension or something,” suggested Pröbst.

The Langenpreisingers would have already done that.

This way you don't take money into your hands and later essentially throw it out the window.

However, a classic container construction method or a rental project are also possible.

The council has already received two initial cost estimates - the modules in question would amount to around 1.2 million euros, and containers to around 800,000 euros.

The whole thing is of course also a budgetary question.

It's not just the school association that will pay, says Pröbst.

The 9+2 students should move into the modules or containers.

You don't want to separate the smaller ones from the school building.

The discussion also revolved around sanitary facilities.

Toilets are marked on Pezold's rough plan.

But can't you also use the Strogenhalle for this?

Or is it difficult from a supervisory and safety perspective?

Maybe make a breakthrough from the hall into an extension with student toilets?

No decision has yet been made on these issues.

However, the council voted 19-0 to continue with the planning and then present it to the building committee.

Last October it became known that an interim solution was needed.

At the time, principal Michael Braun reported to the school association that there was an urgent need for space: “Compared to the previous year, we have four more students in the primary school (now 205) in ten classes and 24 more in the middle school (333) in 14 classes – and the trend is upwards.”
