After the Saint-Paul district, long plagued by the presence of drug addicts, sources of nuisance for local residents and traders (drug users going so far as to use public toilets as shooting rooms), it is turn of the inhabitants of the Capucins district, near the market of the same name, to rebel against the presence of drug traffickers in their neighborhood.
They are organizing a rally in front of Bordeaux town hall this Saturday, to express their discontent.
The call to demonstrate, shared by the Instagram account
“Bordeaux my city without filter”
– which regularly relays incivility, degradation and
“problems linked to drug addiction”
– currently brings together around thirty residents of the Capucins and particularly those on rue Élie Gintrac, which connects the market to Place de la Victoire.
“We will be together, residents and traders, to express our dismay and our fed up”

“They follow women in the street”
The demonstration will take place this Saturday, February 10 at 5 p.m. in front of town hall.
Nicolas Costa, one of the instigators of this gathering, explains that rue Élie Gintrac is
“infested with drug dealers”
, but also deplores
“people who gamble”
and who urinate in the street.
According to him,
“residents and traders can be attacked at any time”
.
Nicolas Costa also explains that he was
“threatened with death twice”
and was
“insulted almost daily”
.
For this local resident at the end of his tether,
“the dealers do what they want, there are sometimes 15 of them on the corner of the street dealing, without any problem, and playing their music loudly until 3 a.m. »
.
In addition to the presence of drug trafficking, Nicolas Costa explains that the atmosphere in the neighborhood is increasingly harmful, especially for women and the most vulnerable people.
“They follow the women in the street, they attack the little grannies, and the students no longer dare to pass in this street because they whistle at the girls.”
Not feeling listened to by the town hall and judging the action of the police, both municipal and national, ineffective, Nicolas Costa hopes that the presence of several residents in front of the town hall will force the city to take concrete measures.
“There will always be drug dealers, but at least they should be discreet, they are behaving like terrorists!”

“Strong action by state services”
Contacted, the Bordeaux town hall explains that it is well aware of this situation on rue Élie Gintrac.
“We are trying to find solutions
,” says Marc Etcheverry, deputy mayor responsible for security, crime prevention and mediation.
“This street is one of the major concerns we have regarding the deterioration of the living environment.”
The elected official adds that this is also one of
“the places where we deploy the most municipal police officers in terms of frequency of passage”
.
The municipal police visit the site at least three times a day.
Three cameras are installed on this perimeter and a fourth will be installed soon.
The elected official recognizes, however, that
“the situation is untenable”
for local residents.
“We cannot leave Bordeaux residents in a situation like that.”
Marc Etcheverry also recalls that the role of the municipal police is not the same as that of the national police.
“At this level, we need strong action from state services, it will only be resolved like that.”
The town hall claims to have used all means at its disposal and is currently working on an order to close businesses in the evening.
At the end of December, more than a kilo of cocaine was seized in this neighborhood during a large-scale police operation.
These arrests of delinquents allowed the temporary calming of the neighborhood, but the dealers returned.
