The district wants to raise money again for the Mittenwald instrument making school.

This time, millions will be invested in a new roof and a modern concert hall.

Mittenwald

– Anyone who enters the concert hall of the Mittenwald Instrument Making School involuntarily embarks on a journey through time.

The charm of the late 1950s blows around you there.

You won't come across kidney-shaped tables like in the Adenauer era, but you will find blue-upholstered chairs from 1957. "But they lasted a long time," wondered SPD district councilor Martin Wohlketzetter at the school committee meeting.

The roof is a danger to life and limb!

This committee now unanimously recommends a comprehensive renovation of the oldest part of the instrument making school building - the one that is located along Partenkirchner Straße and houses the concert hall mentioned above on the first floor.

The trigger for this construction project, which according to initial calculations will cost around 2.2 million euros, is the dilapidated roof, which no longer meets the requirements in terms of both the quality of the roof panels and the snow load.

Mittenwald district councilor Gerhard Schöner (CSU) puts it a little more drastically.

“The roof is a danger to life and limb!” For district architect Alkmar Zenger, there is therefore an absolute need for action.

“We have to clean it up.”

This opportunity could also be used to tackle the antediluvian concert hall below.

“It was only designed for string instruments,” says Rector Dr.

Frederik Habel with.

The violin school has now become an instrument making school with additional disciplines such as woodwinds and metalwinds.

“We can now play in symphonic ensembles,” explains Habel.

But unfortunately not on the much too small stage.

That is why the responsible district office, as the so-called material expenditure provider for this facility, is planning to extend the existing building in a northerly direction by three meters.

The concert hall currently measures 167 square meters and has 172 seats.

In addition to the completely renewed seating and the expansion of around 30 square meters, this project also aims to modernize the completely outdated technology and install floor-to-ceiling windows.

Operation Concert Hall costs around 300,000 euros.

The lion's share of almost two million euros is consumed by roof renovation.

In view of the district's tense budgetary situation, Christl Freier (Greens) wanted to know from the district architect: "Can we postpone it for a year?" Basically yes, replied Zenger, but he advocated at least starting with the planning.

For this purpose, the district needs 80,000 euros for 2024.

If, despite all prophecies of doom, there is enough cash left over, the project would begin at the end of 2025.

In 2026, a symphonic orchestra could delight audiences for the first time.
