Hausham - At the New Year's reception in Hausham, Mayor Jens Zangenfeind awarded three citizens with badges of honor and certificates.

You have made a special contribution.

At the Hausham New Year's reception, Mayor Jens Zangenfeind asked three citizens who had made a special contribution to come forward.

In recognition, he awarded them badges of honor with a certificate.

The local council had previously decided on this in a secret meeting.

61 years of volunteer work for the community library

One of those honored was Marianne Wick, who, as the town hall boss emphasized, has been volunteering for the community library for an incredible 61 years.

The committed book lover started out as a youth representative – back then in the parish library.

After the concept was transferred to the community library, Wick stuck with it and has been a mainstay in the team ever since. “Especially older library members who have difficulty getting to the library themselves visit and supply them with reading material.

“In addition, you participate in organizing flea markets, readings and many other events,” recalled Zangenfeind in his thanks.

Commitment to the mining museum

As chairman of the mining museum association for almost 20 years and 16 years in the same position for the mining museum interest group, Wolfgang Grützner played a key role in ensuring that the mining history in Hausham is not forgotten.

At the annual general meeting of the mining museum association at the end of last year, Grützner, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, was appointed honorary chairman.

Now the community also took the opportunity to honor the co-founder of the mining museum in the old town hall.

“Together with your team, you maintained this excellent museum, filled it with life and thereby told and passed on our story,” said Zangenfeind in his laudatory speech and promised: “And this story is not over yet.

Even if we don’t know 100 percent exactly where, there will definitely be a new museum.”

Support in the event of a disaster

As the third member of the group, Zangenfeind finally invited Peter Greil, who was committed to amateur radio in Hausham and Agatharied for a period of 40 years and was first chairman of the Hausham local branch of the German Amateur Radio Club from 1980 to 2020.

Zangenfeind emphasized that radio broadcasting is not just a pastime, but rather that amateur radio operators can use shortwave to connect to still-functioning data transmission systems via shortwave and that life-saving support and targeted help can be organized: “For this, and for your many years of volunteer work, you deserve all our thanks .”
