Melina Mittermeier from Poing completed her training in record time: at 18, she is Bavaria's youngest master hairdresser.

In an interview with our newspaper, she gives hairstyle tips.

Poing – Melina Mittermeier from Poing is the youngest master hairdresser in Bavaria.

The 18-year-old successfully completed her master's examination at the end of 2023.

She completed the training itself at a turbo pace: after graduating from secondary school, the 16-year-old moved to the Meininghaus Academy of Hairdressers in Forchheim, where her father Johannes Mittermeier completed the training and master's examination.

In order to concentrate fully on her training, Melina Mittermeier lived in a shared apartment at the academy.

“It was hard at the beginning, being away from home at the age of 16,” she says.

But she wanted to go through with it, this career dream was already in her as a child, she says: “I always wrote that in the children's books.” That's not surprising, her parents Johannes and Kathrin Mittermeier run several hairdressing salons in Poing and Munich.

After completing her training, the 18-year-old completed her journeyman's exam and then her master's exam in record time.

“I didn’t want to work in between and then have to study again later.

I wanted to get it over with straight away,” she says in an interview with our newspaper.

The time and stay in Forchheim were very well planned, says the young master.

With a strict program: no alcohol, no cigarettes, constant checks and only going home briefly every four weeks.

Poing: Melina Mittermeier passes three exams in one year

Thanks to her secondary school diploma, Melina Mittermeier was able to shorten her training by a year, so that in 2023 she was able to take the intermediate examination in April, the journeyman's examination in July and the master's examination in December.

“An exam every two weeks,” she says about the apprenticeship.

“It's nice when you do something good for people and I can put a smile on their faces through my work,” says the 18-year-old about her job.

In the master's test she had to transform a lady into a modern version of the evil dog kidnapper Cruella De Vil from "101 Dalmatians".

Her block black and white hair is striking.

The test also included make-up, styling and nail design.

In addition, Mittermeier had to conjure up fine curls for a gentleman with papilotts, “giving bounce to straight hair,” as she describes it herself.

On the second day of the exam, among other things, it was time for a men's style cut (the hair on the neck and sides is shortest) and updo.

Done!

On December 18th, Melina Mittermeier received her master's certificate - at the age of 18, she was the youngest master hairdresser in Bavaria.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

She is now back in Poing and works in her parents' Unison salon.

90 percent of those who go to the Meininghaus Academy come from hairdressing businesses or families themselves, says the 18-year-old.

After her return, she would like to gain professional experience at home - and move on at some point.

She names London, Milan, Paris as her desired locations.

Poing: hairstyle tips from the young master

Another question for the young master: What hairstyle is currently in for men and women?

“The mullet is trendy for men,” she replies.

A variation of the “mullet” (“short at the front, long at the back”) from the late 1980s/early 1990s.

Mullett is the English name for mullet and is more varied.

According to Melina Mittermeier, curtain bangs are popular for women.

A fringe like a curtain in front of the forehead and face.

Likewise, as short hair: bob with bangs.

The 18-year-old hairdresser likes to wear this style herself.

Cut by her mother, a master hairdresser like her daughter.
