Valuable wood was recently auctioned off at Lake Starnberg.

More than 1000 euros are achieved for 36 trunks each

St. Heinrich – The prices for softwood are rising, those for hardwood are falling: This is how the 26th Oberland valuable timber submission in St. Heinrich on Lake Starnberg can be summarized.

On Thursday, the Holzkirchen Forest Owners' Association (WBV) invited all forest owners and interested parties to a tour of the storage area in the parking lot of the Ambach local recreation area.

Despite the tense economic situation, the WBV recorded a solid overall result this year.

Forestry department organizes auction for

With the support of the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry (AELF) Holzkirchen, the association organized the Oberland valuable wood submission for the 26th time on February 1st.

This is a written auction of selected, high-quality hardwood and softwood logs, which are offered centrally at the storage area in St. Heinrich.

The submission always takes place on the first Thursday in February.

This time, four forest owners' associations from Upper Bavaria, four forestry companies from the Bavarian State Forests, the Munich Municipal Forestry Administration and the Tyrol Forest Association delivered 557 cubic meters of valuable hardwood and softwood (last year it was 650 cubic meters).

The bride comes from Tyrol: and costs almost 2,000 euros per cubic meter

The “bride”, i.e. the tree trunk with the highest bid per cubic meter, came from Tyrol.

The yew achieved the highest price per cubic meter at 1,904 euros per cubic meter.

The trunk was purchased by a carpenter from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district.

The most expensive trunk overall was delivered via WBV Holzkirchen from near Holzkirchen, in the Valley: an oak tree from the Bichler family with just under six cubic meters and a total value of 5,141 euros.

“There can’t be exceptional strains with prices in the five-figure range on the pitch every year.

What is much more important for our forest owners is that good overall revenue is achieved,” says Alexander Necker, Managing Director of WBV Holzkirchen.

38 bidders from across Germany and Austria took part in the tender this year.

According to Necker, 30 bidders were awarded the contract.

Despite the satisfactory result, the WBV managing director admits: "The fallen prices for hardwood compared to the previous year reflect the current weak order situation from our wood processing companies, especially from hardwood sawyers and veneer manufacturers." The oak and sycamore maple were 219 cubic meters, or 92 cubic meters (m³) delivered quantity again the most important tree species in terms of quantity.

At 393 euros/m³, the average revenue across all types of wood remained slightly below the previous year (417 euros/m³).

Hardwood prices are becoming cheaper - softwood is a valuable commodity

However, there were differences depending on the tree species, explains Necker.

The average revenue for hardwood fell across the board.

Apples, pears, cherries and sycamores, for example, would have produced significantly less.

It's different with softwood, from spruce to larch to yew.

Here prices have risen, with the exception of Douglas fir.

For the first time since the start of the submission process, stone pine trees were offered in significant quantities this year.

They would have achieved a very good average revenue of 583 euros/m³.

The marketing percentage increased slightly to 91 percent compared to the previous year (89 percent).

“The organizational effort for the WBV is very high, but the forest owners were able to achieve significantly higher prices for their valuable wood than on Waldstrasse,” said the managing director.

36 logs achieved more than 1,000 euros each, and 18 bids were over 1,000 euros per cubic meter.

But one cannot emphasize often enough that these are exceptional proceeds for exceptional tribes from a huge catchment area, said Necker.

The members of the WBV Holzkirchen once again provided the largest part of the tender offer with 145 m³.

Its chairman Alexander Mayr says: “Our Oberland valuable timber submission stands for sustainable business with nature and local value creation.” Forestry director Korbinian Wolf from the Holzkirchen Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry adds: “It is always a pleasure to see the quality Our local forestry produces high-quality wood.” It would be nice if these were processed into selected furniture, veneers and musical instruments and brought a lot of joy to their future owners.

This is also a bit of motivation and appreciation for the forest owners.tal
