Family doctor Imke Wittkowski introduces herself to the people of Finsingen.

One focus of the new practice owner is nutritional medicine.

Neufinsing - Anyone interested could take a look behind the scenes of the family doctor's practice in Neufinsing: owner Imke Wittkowski, who took over the practice from Anna Lackhof a month ago, invited people to the open day - and numerous citizens took the opportunity to see the “New to get to know.

Wittkoswki, who lives with her husband and son in Poing, is no longer so new: She has been working part-time in the practice at the Neufinsinger medical center since April 2023.

In addition to the classic family doctor services, the offerings also include preventive health care with check-ups and a wide range of basic diagnostics - from long-term ECGs to ultrasound examinations.

What is new is so-called point-of-care diagnostics, immediate diagnostics close to the patient in order to avoid hospital admissions as much as possible.

Benefits in older age are another focus.

“As you get older, your demands change,” says Wittkowski, who, after studying medicine in Leipzig and Munich, gained professional experience in the areas of internal medicine and oncology at the Erding and Dorfen clinics, among others.

In addition to home and home visits with a portable ECG device, she also offers palliative care support and also wants to be the contact person for matters relating to living wills and health care power of attorney.

Nutritional advice also plays an important role.

Wittkowski also gave a short lecture that evening on the topic of “healthy eating”.

She can imagine offering such information evenings from time to time in the future if necessary.

“I would like to see topics emerge in discussions with patients that they are particularly interested in,” said Wittkowski – such as nutrition in childhood or diabetes.

“We want to be as broad as possible and offer solid basic diagnostics as well as emergency care,” the 50-year-old explained her practice concept and added: “We also want to be advocates for patients” and be available to answer health questions at every age and in every situation stand.

At the open day, some visitors were particularly interested in whether the family doctor's practice was still accepting new patients.

Wittkowski was able to reassure people here: There is currently no stop to admissions.

Caring for the local people and accompanying them “intensely and closely” is the great thing about being a family doctor: “It’s just a joy,” summarized the doctor.
