He was arrested not with his hand in the bag but… with bags in his hands.
A 44-year-old homeless man was picked up by the police on Wednesday morning as he was leaving a house that he had just burglarized, rue Daubigny, in La Rochette.
Before being placed in police custody at the Melun Val de Seine police station.
His loot: jewelry, money, a hunting rifle and ammunition.
Investigators from the Property Crime Unit had in fact been trying to get their hands on him for some time: they suspected him - with genetic fingerprints and video surveillance images - of having committed, since June 2023, no less than 27 burglaries as well as two thefts from trailers, from vehicles parked in the street.
But without an address, it's difficult to find it.
Stranded waiting for the hearing
La Rochette, Melun, Vaux-le-Pénil or even Vert-Saint-Denis: the forty-year-old would have stolen jewelry, cash or even large tools from the houses he visited.
And this, in order to resell them later.
Three times, he left with a car, the keys to which he found on site.
While in police custody, the alleged burglar admitted to a large part of the burglaries attributed to him.
Acts committed most often in the absence of the owners and always without violence.
Unfavorably known to the police, the forty-year-old was brought before the Melun public prosecutor's office on Thursday.
He will be judged later by the Melun criminal court, as part of a deferred appearance.
Pending the hearing, he was remanded in custody.
