The traffic light is planning cannabis legalization on April 1st.

The aim is to dry up the black market.

Minister Lauterbach explained the background on ZDF.

Hamburg – The law on cannabis legalization is due to be passed by the traffic light coalition in two weeks.

From April 1st, smoking weed will no longer be a criminal offense; every consumer will be allowed to legally possess 25 grams of cannabis.

In the talk session with Markus Lanz on Thursday, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach addressed the continued major reservations about the planned change in the law in a sometimes heated debate.

They want to “recognize that cannabis has arrived in society” – and better protect children and young people by removing taboos.

Cannabis talk on ZDF: Controversy about legalization – Lauterbach has to explain himself to Lanz

The discussion is not new; the arguments of opponents of cannabis legalization are often characterized by prejudices and half-knowledge.

You couldn't blame the guests of Markus Lanz's cannabis talk session, whose criticism Lauterbach had to face on ZDF.

Among other things, Dr.

Tanja Brunnert from the Association of Pediatricians and Adolescents is critical of the planned change in the law.

“They advertise.

You post on Instagram as the federal government 'Bubatz becomes legal'.

They are using youth language to get their draft law to the people.”

Lauterbach was confronted with cannabis mail by Markus Lanz: “This has to be checked”

Melanie Amann, deputy editor-in-chief of “Spiegel”, had previously pointed out a post published by the federal government on Instagram with the slogan “Bubatz becomes legal”.

Amann accused Karl Lauterbach (SPD) of “advertising” cannabis.

“This is solely an awareness campaign about the dangers of cannabis,” replied Lauterbach.

“Then it’s done badly,” replied the pediatrician Brunnert.

The Federal Minister of Health still wants to have the post in question, which was posted not by the Ministry of Health but by the Federal Government's Press and Information Office, checked.

“To be honest, this is not the campaign we did,” Lauterbach said previously.

“As a doctor and mother, I say: Please don’t!”: Youth doctor criticizes cannabis legalization

Another point of criticism from the doctor: the drug's release age - and the special regulation for 18 to 21 year olds, a "vulnerable" age group.

The permitted amount of 30 grams of cannabis per month for young people is far too high.

That's enough for three joints a day: "As a mother and doctor, I say: Please don't." The health risks of smoking weed are immense, especially for growing brains.

Lauterbach near Lanz: “Recognize that smoking weed has arrived in society”

Lauterbach stuck to his argument that children and young people should be better protected through education, not through criminalization.

Every year, around 180,000 young people have been put on record because they use cannabis; that is not the way to go.

His message: “Illegality no longer protects, but education - 'It damages your brain', that will protect." Lauterbach continues: "Those who already consume will then no longer be dependent on the black market, no longer on the dealers, on them Crime, on the admixtures.

This means we recognize that cannabis is consumed in society.”

The previous strategy of criminalizing and prosecuting consumers has proven unsuccessful.

In view of the increasing strength of cannabis cultivation, dangerous admixtures and the growing number of users, it is time to acknowledge the reality.

They want to dry up the black market, where small fish are no longer caught. “What interests us are the kilos and tons, we will focus on that.”

“Hypocritical debate”: Radiology professor points out damage caused by alcohol and cigarettes

Radiologist Felix Nensa, professor at Essen University Hospital, spoke of a difficult discussion when criticizing cannabis legalization in view of the “immense” damage that legal drugs cause: “I find this debate hypocritical, because in my clinical practice I have We have seen very, very many people who have suffered very, very great damage from addictive substances.

These addictive substances were almost always alcohol and cigarettes”.

When he looks at a CT scan, he can see after three seconds whether someone is a smoker or drinking too much.

“The fact that it’s illegal doesn’t stop anyone from doing it” – Lauterbach wants to decriminalize stoners

The solution might then be a big campaign about the dangers of alcohol consumption, “instead of saying that smoking weed is now allowed,” countered Markus Lanz.

“Is that the wish to smoke more weed?

Then we leave everything as it is.

Then we let it continue to grow,” commented Lauterbach angrily.

“Then we leave the market completely to the black market.

Then we tell people: Go in there, approach the young people, sell them your dirty stuff.”

The fact that it is illegal no longer stops anyone from consuming it, Lauterbach pointed out.

The aim of the law is to reduce the consumption of caanabis in the long term or at least not to increase it; studies from Canada and Colorado have shown the effect of legalization.

After the law has been introduced, it will also be checked in Germany whether it is effective: “After two years, we will evaluate it with the participation of the BKA,” concluded Lauterbach.
