This Saturday, the painting “Spring” by Claude Monet was doused with soup by two activists from the Riposte Alimentaire collective at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon.
Their gesture was relayed on X (formerly Twitter) by the collective, which published the video of the two young women, accompanied by a text of demands.
“This spring will be the only one we have left if we don’t react.
What will our future artists paint?
» state the two activists, Ilona and Sophie according to the collective, standing in front of the work, dressed in white t-shirts on which we can read “Food Response”.

“Art is the most beautiful tribute to life.
We love it But our future artists will have nothing left to paint on a burned planet.
They will no longer dream, in a world of multiple conflicts.
We still have a choice.
We must wake up and resist,” writes Riposte Alimentaire.
Grégory Doucet “regrets the action” carried out at the museum
This civil disobedience collective which took over from Dernier Rénovation, is also behind the throwing of soup on the window of “The Mona Lisa” which occurred at the end of January at the Louvre museum.
A gesture which marked “the kick-off (of a) campaign of civil resistance, which carries a clear demand, beneficial to all”: “The integration of food into the general social security system” .
The city's mayor, Grégory Doucet, reacted on X, providing his support to the teams at the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon.
The cultural establishment did not react this Saturday on its social networks.
I regret the action taken today at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon against a painting by Monet.
All my support to the teams, forced to close part of the museum.
But faced with the climate emergency, anxiety is legitimate.
We respond to it with resolute action.
