In a Germany-wide comparison, Bavaria is ahead: the residents of the Free State are the most intelligent.
Nevertheless, the Free State can still improve.
Munich – Bavaria is the land of “Gscheidhaferl”, according to a study by the online tutoring platform
TutorSpace.de
.
As a result, there are said to be a particularly large number of intelligent people living in the Free State compared to the rest of Germany.
However, intelligence cannot be depicted so easily.
The team used ten categories for the study.
Jessica Keßler, project manager at
TutorSpace.de
, explains to Merkur.de: “This is an attempt to make the complex and multi-layered construct of intelligence more tangible.”
Bavaria achieves the highest score nationwide in an intelligence comparison
All 16 federal states were assigned a score between 0 and 100 for ten different criteria.
An overall score is created from the ten individual points achieved.
Bavaria achieved the highest value nationwide at 63.16.
Close behind are Saxony (61.85) and Baden-Württemberg (60.22).
Brandenburg (26.26), Rhineland-Palatinate (24.73) and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (20.47) are at the bottom.
Measured by the intelligence of its residents, Bavaria is the smartest federal state in all of Germany.

Jessica Keßler explains the difference between the countries with the decentralized structure of Germany's education system.
Keßler goes on to say: “Socio-economic factors, historical developments and regional characteristics also play a role.”
“Educational quality and accessibility” is particularly good in Bavaria
According to the study results, Bavaria particularly stands out in the “educational quality and accessibility” category, which is made up of the first five categories.
In the German PISA equivalent IBQ (Institute for Quality Development in Education), Bavaria's students perform best in mathematics and they also secure a place in the top 4 in reading and spelling. In addition, almost 26% of Bavarians have a high school diploma or technical qualification in the bag.
The average grade here is 2.2.
The ten categories to represent intelligence:
Achievement of the optimal standard in mathematics according to the IBQ education trend
Achievement of the optimal reading standard according to the IBQ education trend
Achievement of the optimal spelling standard according to the IBQ educational trend
Average Abitur grade
Proportion of the population with a (technical) university entrance qualification in the total population
Proportion of students in the total population
Number of promotions
Patent applications
Share of public budget expenditure on education in the total budget
Share of spending on research and development

Recommendations for action for Bavaria: Financial support and initiatives
For Patrick Nadler, founder of
TutorSpace.de
, the study results represent an opportunity: “The data highlights key areas in which every country can make improvements.” Jessica Keßler explains what this means specifically for Bavaria: “Bavaria could increase the proportion of students increase in the total population.” This would require financial support to enable people from all social classes to study.
In addition, according to Keßler, Bavaria could “develop initiatives that facilitate access to further education” so that students from non-academic families would receive targeted support.
The study authors got their data from the Federal Statistical Office, the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of Education Ministers of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Institute for Quality Development in Education (IBQ) and the Baden-Württemberg State Statistical Office.
