In the Ukraine war, Ukrainian special forces claim to have captured a “tactically and operationally” important Russian fortress and taken a number of prisoners.
Kiev – After several months of unsuccessful attempts, Ukraine is said to have achieved an important breakthrough at the front in the war against Russia.
As the
Kyiv Post
newspaper reports, special forces in an operation under the code name “Hoverla” managed to capture a Russian base that could give Ukraine important tactical and operational advantages.
The operation and its result became public in a Telegram post by the special forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which published an edited video on the short message service.
There you can see how Ukrainian troops advance closer to the base and how it is finally attacked with a drone.
The significantly inferior Ukrainian armed forces repeatedly manage to advance to important tactical positions and thus gain small advantages in the fight against Russia.

Prisoners in the Ukraine War: “It would have been better to stay in prison”
In their information about the video, the special forces write that after several failed attempts, the attack was now successful with the help of fire support, electronic warfare means and unmanned military aircraft.
Several Russian fighters were driven out of the fortifications and two paratroopers were captured.
One of them can also be heard in the video in a conversation between one of the Ukrainian soldiers.
When the Ukrainian asked why the Russian fighter - apparently one of the recruits from Russian prisons - went to war, he replied that he didn't want to fight, but wanted his freedom.
“It would have been better if I had stayed in prison for a year and nine months,” the Russian prisoner admits in the recording.
Takeover of Russian military posts in the Ukraine war: gradually gaining tactical advantages
The information shared by the special forces on the video does not specify the exact location of the Russian position, only stating that it is a higher position.
Speaking to the
Kyiv Post
, a Ukrainian military officer said that this position could give Ukrainian forces an important tactical advantage.
“Anyone who has a dominant height position also has advantages on the battlefield,” the newspaper quoted the expert as saying.
At just over 2,000 meters, Hoverla, in the forest Carpathians, after which the operation was named, is the highest mountain in Ukraine.

According to information from the special forces, units of the Ukrainian armed forces took up positions here after taking control and clearing the base, according to the special forces' Telegram post.
As
Kyiv Post
and several other media outlets report, similar military successes occur again and again in the Ukraine war, in which important tactical advantages are gained using simple means.
Most recently, there were reports about the takeover of a Russian position in the Donetsk region at the end of January, which would have been achieved through a diversionary maneuver.
The Ukrainian armed forces had also published video material about this.
