When deciding on a travel destination, local safety often plays a role.

The “Risk Map” world map provides important guidance in this regard.

Many people are already busy planning their vacation for next year or have already done so.

An important criterion for choosing a destination is local safety.

It is important to inform yourself in advance and to be aware of the risks.

The latest version of the “Risk Map” from the crisis early warning expert A3M shows where it will be particularly dangerous next year.

Vacation 2024: Which countries you shouldn't travel to

Looking ahead to 2023, a lot has happened in the world.

Negative news about war, crises and natural disasters around the globe seems to predominate.

This also has an impact on A3M’s “risk map”.

The level of security in a country or region is shown by the color categories into which they are divided: “Very low risk (dark green)”, “Low risk (light green)”, “Increased risk (yellow)”, “ High risk (orange)” and “Very high risk (red)”.

The classification as “red” occurs if armed conflicts and massive violent crime prevail locally or if large parts of the country are not or hardly under state control.

Areas that are difficult to access can also pose a “very high risk”.

On the “Risk Map” you can see which are the riskiest countries in 2024 and which are the safest.

Traveling to countries colored red on the map is generally not recommended - in 2024 these include Ukraine, where the war against Russia will soon enter its third year, and Israel, where there have been terrorist attacks by Hamas.

Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran, as well as North African states such as Libya, Mali, Niger, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Somalia and the Central African Republic, were also considered to pose the highest security risk.

Russia and Belarus, on the other hand, are colored orange, which represents the second highest risk level.

In addition, large parts of Europe are colored light green on the map, which indicates a low risk for travelers.
