Spectacular intervention during the night from Friday to Saturday February 10, in a private property in Essarts-le-Roi (Yvelines), near Rambouillet.
Around 11 p.m., in circumstances that remain to be clarified, a mare of around ten years old fell into a swimming pool, located on this individual's land, along Chemin John-Larcombe.
Impossible for the equine to escape this aquatic trap on its own.
Around twenty firefighters, including five animal rescue specialists, were dispatched to the scene.
Working for more than four hours, they finally managed to get the animal out of the water using straps and a lifting machine.
The Yvelines departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) mobilized an animal vehicle, containing rescue and capture equipment intended for these delicate interventions.
Trapped in water between 8 and 12 degrees
The mare, hypothermic and paralyzed after her stay in water whose temperature was estimated between 8 and 12 degrees, was taken care of at length by the fire veterinarian.
She was able to return to her box early in the morning and now seems in good health.
“Without human intervention, she would not have been able to escape,” commented Commander Marc Bidard this Saturday, departmental animal risk referent for the Yvelines firefighters, who intervened on site as a technical advisor.
She was in great difficulty when we arrived.
The veterinarian managed the medical aspect with an injection, rubbing gestures and oxygen supply.
He also dealt with the stress of this animal, which was obviously important.”

Several horses are hosted on this property.
It is still unknown how the accident happened.
In recent years, the Yvelines firefighters have intervened “between one and three times a year” for horses that have fallen into private swimming pools.
