The Munich fire department had to respond to a tricky situation.

They describe details of the incident in a curious operational report.

Munich - Two young women parked their car on Lindwurmstrasse in Munich and got out.

An everyday mishap occurred: “The car key fell down.

Unfortunately, it ended up right in a storm drain and the two women could neither see nor reach it.

In their helpless situation, they called the emergency number 112." The fire department reported this in a press release on Sunday, February 11th - what follows is a curious operational report.

Munich: Fire brigade moves to Lindwurmstrasse

A small alarm vehicle was dispatched to the scene by the integrated control center.

“We'll have it soon,” thought the two firemen.

But this should not come true..." the press release continues.

First they tried to remove the manhole cover using special hooks.

But where was the key?

He couldn't be found in the collection basket and the search began.

After a quick inspection, they discovered the key.

He had fallen so badly into the storm drain that he slipped past the collecting basket, lay under it and threatened to slide down further.

The plan now was to remove the catcher.

But that wasn't possible.

For unknown reasons, the basket was so deformed and jammed that it could not be removed.

After a brief consultation, they decided to use a thin rope to retrieve the key.

Tricky situation: Fire brigade rescues lost key from storm drain

“They tied a small noose in the rope and tried to reach the key.

Now tact and a steady hand were required to ensure that the key didn't fall any further,” the fire department continued.

After a few attempts, they managed to encircle the key with the loop.

Now they had to pull carefully and move the key upwards.

The plan was successful, the key was recovered and given to the ladies.

The result: two relieved young women who were able to continue their evening and two satisfied firefighters who had completed their mission.
