A “trip around the world” is the motto of the carnival parade in Markt Schwaben.

It's colorful, even if the weather is more of a gray-on-gray.

Markt Schwaben –

Shortly before 12 p.m. on the market square in Markt Schwaben.

Only a few hard-core people are gently hopping from one foot to the other in front of one of the stands in the middle of the small village of stalls in order to somehow defy the Sunday's 4 degrees Celsius cold.

Helene Fischer's hit song about breathlessness provides a not unwelcome disco beat.

And her colleague “Sexy Rexy” Rex Guido shouldn’t be missing from such swinging sessions.

The audience only arrives at the last moment

It's not raining heavily, but it's raining constantly.

This is not weather for delicate types.

On Ebersberger Straße next door, the usual through traffic rushes through the center of town.

It's hard to imagine that in just over an hour a carnival procession that hasn't been seen in the market town since 1980 will be making its way here.

Even an hour later, around 12.45 p.m., there is still no sign that the streets and paths around the market square will soon be overcrowded.

But suddenly they are there, the fools from the former carnival stronghold in the north of the district.

They come crawling out of the proverbial holes.

Lovingly dressed in costumes or just properly warm and rainproof.

And then everything seems to be organized very quickly and like clockwork.

Carnival procession starts a few minutes earlier than planned

A 20-member samba troupe unmistakably marks the start with their percussion.

Meanwhile, the participants from twelve clubs and associations have formed up on the train with their small and yet sometimes elaborately prepared companions.

First of all, the anniversary group from the Falkonia with a safari car and a rolling African clay hut.

Iceland and Ireland have made the bowlers from KC Steinmeir their topic right behind them.

Tulips and cheese from Holland present the veterans and reservists;

including Dutch traditional costumes.

The water rescue service goes uphill.

Just 14 days ago she was swimming on the Danube in Neuburg and, as usual, she had a small, self-built wooden boat with her.

The floating ship model didn't really come into play.

It therefore makes sense to push or pull it through the town center again as a Viking ship with the BRK water rescue flag on this Carnival Sunday.

Followed by the traditional costumers, whose theme is Switzerland.

And the theater people who focus on America.

The gymnasts are drawing attention to this year's Olympics in Paris.

It makes sense that tennis fans should focus on Wimbledon and the sport of tennis.

Some tennis balls fly around each other for a short time in this way;

is currently modern in German stadiums.

Speaking of football.

The youth footballers from Schwabener Au represent, how could it be otherwise, Brazil.

And at the end of the procession are the boys in dirndls who didn't want to commit to any country, but instead promote the Falken Air "airline".

The train takes a good 15 minutes - from start to finish it is safely accompanied by almost 20 firefighters.

He moves along Ebersberger Straße to Herzog-Ludwig-Straße and Alte Bräuhausgasse and then circles the market square again until the hustle and bustle on the market square really picks up speed.

Despite the rain.

The contribution of the water quails.
