The planned school building merger in Eurasburg is not a cheap project.

The spatial concept was presented to the local council.

Not all councilors liked the draft.

Eurasburg

– The largest construction project in the community of Eurasburg, the merger of the two school buildings, is entering the next round.

At the local council meeting on Tuesday, the spatial concept for a new building with renovation of the primary school building in Beuerberg was presented.

“A house number - definitely”: Architects gave the first cost estimate

Sandra Dicht and Peter Franck from the Krug Grossmann Architects planning office in Munich presented the committee with a detailed concept in two variants, each based on a renovation of the existing school building and a supplementary new building.

And the architects gave an initial cost estimate.

For a new building with a partial basement, the costs total at least 16.5 million euros;

minus an expected funding of 5.3 million euros, the municipality would have a share of just under 11.2 million euros.

The variant with a full basement has an estimated total cost of 20.9 million euros.

Less 6.8 million in funding, the municipality would have to make a remaining investment of 14 million euros.

Both calculations include 300,000 euros each for the rental of interim containers during the construction period.

“It’s a house number, definitely.

But the prices today are significantly different than they were three years ago,” explained architect Franck.

The concept presented was done in close coordination with the school.

“We were very intensively involved in the process,” confirmed school principal Katharina Bolzmacher.

What came out of it was “a good basis on which to start further planning.”

How the individual rooms would ultimately be designed “is a process that is only now beginning.”

Most councilors liked the design

Most of the local councilors agreed with the rector’s opinion.

Ralf Reichenberg found the design “very successful”.

Klaus Koch described the project as a “necessary, forward-looking step for the community.”

“We can only support that.” In view of the preliminary cost forecast, Koch also pointed out: “Whatever we decide, the following local councils will have to support and finance it.”

The planning office's presentation not only received unreserved approval.

Hans Urban said he was “not sure whether this is the best option or whether we would be better off with a completely new building than having to obsessively renovate the old building.”

He received support from local councilors Tobias Bergmann, Patrick Ullrich and Thomas Holzer.

There was no “old building that was falling apart”

In the 15 years that she has been working at the elementary school, she has noticed that the existing building is not an old building that is “falling apart, but rather a beautiful, substantial building with a lot of space and beautiful open spaces,” said Rector Bolzmacher, defending the school complex.

“I was skeptical too, but I was convinced.

I would support it.” And Hubert Zwick added: “We are beyond the discussion about whether to build a new building or not.” In addition, the study is not set in stone.

“It’s not that you can’t incorporate changes and new ideas into this concept,” asserted architect Franck.

“We still have every opportunity to change the planning.”
