attended Sunday Mass for the first time since his cancer diagnosis was revealed
, and offered a joyful greeting as he left the church that has regularly served as a place of worship for the royal family.
Charles and Queen Camilla went to St Mary Magdalene Church, near Sandringham House in eastern England, where the king is staying to recover after receiving his first treatment for an unspecified type of cancer.
The residence, about 180 kilometers (110 miles) north of London, offers the monarch a place where he can isolate himself from the risk of contracting infection.
The visit to the church occurred a day after Carlos thanked the messages of support he has received from the public.
In a statement issued Saturday night, the monarch said that such thoughts
“are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
“It is equally heartwarming to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped raise public awareness and shed light on the work of all those organizations supporting cancer patients and their families across the UK and the world as a whole,” she said. in his statement.
“My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is even greater as a result of my personal experience,” he added.

The last time Carlos was seen was on Tuesday, when he left his Clarence House residence in London after starting his treatment.
Sandringham, the private home of the last six British monarchs, is set amidst parkland, gardens and farms.
It has been owned by the royal family since 1862.
Charles III, who according to Backingham Palace is continuing his treatment at home, changed London for the royal country residence of Sandringham, in Norfolk.
Less than 18 months after acceding to the throne, the 75-year-old king
began treatment on Monday
for a form of cancer that was not specified.
It is known that the disease was detected during a recent intervention for benign prostate hypertrophy, but it is not believed to be a cancer of this type.
