Dachau – A moving evening of theater was held at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial about the “intrepid fighter for humanity and peace” Hans Litten on the 86th anniversary of his death.

The audience gave the Dachau premiere a lot of applause in the packed cinema and asked interested questions in the subsequent conversation.

Suffering through National Socialist concentration camps

Mark Hayhurst's play follows the young lawyer Hans Litten on his ordeal through various National Socialist concentration camps.

His mother Irmgard, who tries to free her son from the hands of the National Socialists, repeatedly speaks out.

The ensemble around Marion Elskis, in the role of the combative Irmgard Litten, created an at times oppressive atmosphere using simple but impressive means.

Philipp Heimke, Stefan Mehren and Stephan Wapenhans showed tragicomic scenes of the imprisonment of Hans Litten, Carl von Ossietzky and Erich Mühsam (all political prisoners of the National Socialists) in a cage made of parcel tape.

The cruelty of the Nazis was embodied by Jochen Gehle as a Gestapo officer.

The audience followed the production spellbound and received long-lasting applause.

Marcus Kaloff's production has already been performed in various memorial sites throughout Germany.

During the audience discussion on the stage of the cinema hall of the concentration camp memorial, the ensemble was visibly moved to be able to show the production in Dachau - the place where Hans Litten died.
