In the repeat of the federal election in Berlin, 40.2 percent of those currently eligible to vote took part by late afternoon (as of 4 p.m.).
The state election authority announced this on Sunday.
In the election in September 2021, 57 percent of those eligible to vote in the repeat voting area at the same time.
In 2021, in addition to the election to the Bundestag, there were also elections to the House of Representatives, the district council assemblies and a referendum.
Berlin - These elections at the state and district level were already completely repeated in February 2023.
According to a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, voting took place on Sunday in 455 of 2,256 electoral districts and the associated postal voting districts, i.e. around a fifth.
The reason for the repetition was that Berlin botched the elections on September 26, 2021 in an unprecedented way: long queues in front of polling stations, missing or incorrect ballot papers, a temporary interruption in voting in some places - the list of problems was long, and a lot has been changed since then.
