Weilheim offers an exceptionally wide range of church concerts.

This is more true this year than ever - and it's not just classical church music that's being played.

Weilheim

- There are two outstanding organs that bring joy to all musical ears in Weilheim's city center: The Riegner & Friedrich organ was inaugurated in the Protestant Apostle Church in 1998 (and overhauled in 2019) - an instrument that can also be heard on several CDs.

The new organ in the Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary is not yet ready: it is currently being built and will be consecrated by Bishop Bertram Meier in mid-June.

But the intensive preparation, the investment of millions and the references of the company “Freiburger Orgelbau Hartwig & Tilmann Späth” lead us to expect that it will be a great organ.

Those responsible are certain that it will “enhance Weilheim as the cultural center of the Pfaffenwinkel”.

Every Saturday a concert with top musicians from all over Europe

Weilheim's church musician Jürgen Geiger, himself internationally renowned, will open a series that is unrivaled on June 16th with the festival concert for the organ consecration.

From then on, concerts with well-known organists from all over Germany, Italy, Poland, France, Austria and Switzerland will follow every Saturday at 11.15 a.m. until mid-September as part of the “International Weilheim Organ Summer”.

The new Friday series “Organ Music at Market Time” begins in October, and on November 16th a concert celebrates the Weilheim composer Robert M. Helmschrott.

High-class choir concerts in the Apostle Church

The tried and tested church music series in the Apostle Church in Weilheim also offers the finest and varied organ music: There, cantor Gundula Kretschmar is sometimes accompanied by individual brass instruments and sometimes by percussion.

She will be playing the “four-handed and four-footed” organ again on September 22nd together with Walter Erdt.

And children can get a close look at the “Queen of Instruments” at the family concert next Carnival Sunday.

There will also be some high-class choir concerts in the Apostle Church: The community's ambitious choir will perform Bach's "Easter Oratorio" with an orchestra and renowned soloists on April 14th - and Gabriel Fauré's Requiem on November 10th to mark the 125th anniversary of the Apostle Church.

The “Goodnews Gospel Singers” from Nuremberg will be performing on April 5th, and the famous Windsbach boys’ choir will be performing on June 15th.

And as always, virtuoso small chamber music ensembles also attract visitors to the Apostle Church and the annual concert of the local trombone choir.
