He risked his life to escape the police.
A man was rescued from the Saint-Denis canal on Saturday morning after trying to flee a check in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, near Boulevard Macdonald.
In hypothermia, he was taken by firefighters to Saint-Louis hospital before being placed in police custody.
Another man, present in the vehicle when he refused to comply, was also arrested.
Drunk and without a license
The events occurred around 9 a.m.
The police spotted the motorist who had just run a red light and decided to check him.
But at the sight of the officials, instead of stopping, the latter decides to continue on his way.
The reason ?
The suspect is drunk and driving without his driver's license.
Chased, he ends up opening his door while his car is still moving and throwing himself out of the vehicle before landing in the canal.
The police quickly came to the aid of the unconscious driver.
They found him at the Quai de la Charente before he was picked up by emergency services.
A gesture which could have been fatal to the motorist.
On January 13, a 25-year-old young man was found dead a few days after falling into the same canal in the early morning after leaving a nightclub.
Same thing, on the Seine-Saint-Denis side, where several bodies have been discovered in the water in recent years.
