The fall of a tree on a roller coaster left 14 people injured, including two seriously, at the Spanish PortAventura amusement park, south of Barcelona, this Sunday February 11.
The strong gusts of wind sweeping the region caused the tree to fall on the Tomahawk attraction, a family roller coaster built of wood, the park said in a press release.
The branches that fell on the tracks would have hit the first wagon of a train launched on the route, which would not have derailed, PortAventura sources told

.
According to the local newspaper, the two seriously injured are adults, and at least one suffers from head trauma.
They were evacuated to area hospitals, and the park says it is monitoring their condition and stands ready to collaborate with authorities in the investigation.
Located near Tarragona, an hour south of Barcelona, PortAventura welcomed 5.5 million visitors in 2023, a record.
The tourist complex includes two amusement parks, a water park and several themed hotels.
It is one of the busiest in Europe, with Disneyland Paris, Europa-Park and Efteling.
