Classically, a strong beer is dark.

But things are different with the “Valentinsbock”, which the “Binderbräu” in Bad Tölz serves from Ash Wednesday onwards.

Bad Tölz – Accompanied by a performance by the Benediktbeuren Prinzengarde, the new Valentine’s Bock from “Binderbräu” was presented these days.

It is a fasting beer, as owner Andreas Binder explained.

The bock beer is so named because Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday fall on the same day this year.

“That’s why we wanted to brew a Bock that you’ll fall in love with,” said Binder with a laugh.

Bad Tölz: “Binderbräu” brews 500 liters of “Valentinsbock”

A strong beer is traditionally dark, added master brewer Michael Pichler.

That's why they wanted to do something different.

The beer matured for two months, of which a total of 500 liters were brewed.

Officially it will be served in the “Binderbräu” from Ash Wednesday - but it has been available to taste since Friday.

It is only intended for use in business, says Pichler.

But if you want a barrel, you can get it directly from the small brewery.

The Valentine's Bock has an original gravity of 17.5 percent, an alcohol content of 7.2 percent and a "deep golden color," according to the description.

The smell is hoppy and fruity, and it tastes slightly sweet like honey.

Faschingsprinz thinks strong beer from Tölz is “tasty”

The Benedictine carnival prince Felix II, the scribbling Bleamal whisperer, who tapped the first barrel, was enthusiastic: “It tastes good.

Drinkable, flawless.” Princess Selina de I. agreed with him as the sparkling Proseccodeandl, which tasted together with the guards.

The Beurer visit was a test run, said Andreas Binder.

He may plan further carnival events next year.
