Buying tickets at S-Bahn stations should be easier - thanks to a large touchscreen.

26 new ticket machines will be installed in the district this year, most of them by the middle of the year.

District - They should be easier to use and offer more functions: 26 new ticket machines will be installed at the S-Bahn stations in the Starnberg district over the course of the year.

This is what a railway spokesman reported when asked by Starnberger Merkur.

In a lengthy press release, the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) announced the installation of more than 400 machines in the Munich S-Bahn network.

A large part of this should be completed by the middle of the year.

The machine type has the blue and yellow “Bahnland Bayern” design and is being used nationwide for the first time with an “XXL display, map view and intuitive interface”.

The centerpiece is a touchscreen that is around 70 centimeters high and almost 40 centimeters wide.

Travel destinations can then be selected on the map, the brightness of the brighter displays automatically adapts to the lighting conditions, and you can pay in cash, with a card, smartphone or smartwatch, it is said.

The project is part of the new contract for ticket sales on the Munich S-Bahn network, which has been in force since January 1st and runs until December 2033.

The BEG, which plans, finances and controls regional and S-Bahn transport on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Construction and Transport, put the sales out to tender for the first time separately from the network's rail operations and awarded the contract to DB Vertriebs at the end of 2021.

Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter is quoted in the statement: “The classic sales channels of ticket machines and customer centers remain important for many passengers.

They also need to be continually developed further.”
