Rio de Janeiro has declared a health emergency due to dengue as the city prepares for the start of Carnival.
In the first five weeks of the year, 265 deaths under investigation and 364,800 probable cases have been recorded in Brazil.
The months of December to February generate hot and humid weather in the region that is ideal for the spread of the virus, transmitted by mosquitoes.
Dengue can cause severe symptoms such as high fever and internal bleeding.
