An
impressive fire
affected the
largest amusement park in Gothenburg
, western
Sweden
, on Monday , leaving at least 12 people injured and buildings evacuated.
According to local police, a hotel and surrounding offices had to be evacuated and 12 people were taken to hospital for
minor injuries
after the fire broke out that affected the
Liseberg Oceana
water amusement park , located in the center of Gothenburg and the
most big of the country
.
The cause and extent of the damage are still unknown, investigators said.
Although the magnitude of the fire was evident due to the videos that went viral on social networks.
"A major fire was declared at the Liseberg Oceana water park. The fire originated
in one of the water attractions
outside the building and spread to the entire property," park authorities explained in a statement.
In images captured by local media, you can see
fireballs
that devastated the property and black smoke above the city.
Regional emergency services asked surrounding residents to stay "indoors" and "close doors and windows" to protect themselves from the smoke.
The area with water attractions, which
is not yet open to the public
, is part of an expansion project for the park and was due to
open later this year
