 "The reasons why my resignation was temporarily presented have not changed and indeed perhaps some have even worsened": this was underlined by the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi speaking to journalists outside the town hall.

"My resignation has been submitted and therefore there are these 20 days (to confirm or withdraw it)" he added.

    Bandecchi then reached the city council already convened on other issues before the announcement of his resignation.

At the request of the minorities, the session was then suspended to hold the group leaders' conference in the presence of the mayor himself.

'If I don't resign I'll go to Europe and Chigi'

Speech in the City Council by the mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi after his resignation formalized in recent days.

"If we resolve our internal problems I will withdraw them. And I will not go to Europe and then to Montecitorio demonstrating to all Italians that my party (Popular Alternative - ed.) is different from that of the others and I can even give you the chair as a gift" he added.

At the beginning of his speech, Bandecchi said that he "had already clarified this to all the national and international press given that the articles were published in New York, France and Spain".

"What is happening in Terni - he added - is simply what I promised the citizens who voted for me, a new policy, different and less of a banquet but more aimed at service".

The mayor then said that "he has had reasons for great disturbance in recent days" thanks to "the opposition".

"Every word was traumatic for me and I would have withdrawn my resignation immediately" he added.

"But I have to talk to my parents and find the conditions to satisfy those who voted for me" he said.

Bandecchi then spoke of, in his opinion, the "tragicomical episodes of the central government".

"I said once that I look at women and oh God I've done something wrong in life... Now I've started to look at men too so I please everyone, right and left" Bandecchi stated again.

'All dressed the same and sadness is upon us'

"The ruin of this nation over the last 30 years is there for all to see. You are all dressed the same, we are all poor... sadness is upon us";

"My party must be different. If I wanted to have a family party, since I have a large family, I could have a party full of people... I'm made one way, another knows how to make music, one the military... . in my family there were also drug addicts...";

"I'm full of chairs, you're missing them": Stefano Bandecchi spoke to journalists outside the Terni town hall where he returned after the announcement of his resignation as mayor.

Explaining that he intends to take "the full 20 days" required by law to decide whether to confirm or withdraw them.

Bandecchi underlined that he wants to decide "what level" he wants in his party.

"the party (Popular Alternative - ed.) is mine and I decide" he underlined.

"I am full of chairs - he said again -, you are missing them, Conte who doesn't know what he does the day he goes home and Meloni who hasn't done anything... before. Anyone who has been involved in politics all their life should at least have the dignity to do it better. Has petrol decreased by half or have you seen something of all that was promised come true? What has happened in Italy in the last year and a half?".

And speaking again about his party: "Meloni is familiar with it, Conte doesn't even know what he has and Salvini keeps everyone by his side... because he has a regulation that makes you laugh. Mine is personal like Forza Italia where Berlusconi was in charge."

AP's request to withdraw his resignation?

"They were right to say what they think - said Bandecchi - but I only take orders from myself. We are not in kindergarten and things must actually change".

"I - Bandecchi continued - am the secretary of Alternative Popular, Italian. This is Terni, a little dot that didn't know anyone until the day before yesterday or only four people knew it. Now everyone knows it".

Bandecchi investigated for resisting municipal police

The resigning mayor of Terni Stefano Bandecchi was investigated by the prosecutor's office of the Umbrian city for resisting a public official towards municipal police officers and other people who intervened last August 28 when he went towards the FdI councilor Marco Cecconi, confronting him after a harsh confrontation with another exponent of the same party Orlando Masselli during a tumultuous city council meeting.

"They tell me that I would have attacked the traffic police and other people but there is a video and we will talk about it" his reply, speaking to ANSA.

"I have always said that I don't trust the judiciary" underlined Bandecchi.

"We will talk, we will see and we will understand" he added.

"I thought and think I was attacked - claimed the mayor -, in fact the next person who attacks me also gets a head in the teeth. In the judiciary I think someone needs to really start being a magistrate".

From what has been learned, the carabinieri reached Bandecchi in the early morning at Palazzo Spada to identify him as the person under investigation.

The investigation was based on a complaint presented after the meeting by councilors Cecconi and Masselli.

The mayor had been held back by his deputy Riccardo Corridore and by the traffic police, when he got up from the council station to go 'face to face' with councilor Cecconi.
