On Carnival Sunday, thousands of masked people marched to Schongau.

23 floats and groups of pedestrians snaked their way around Marienplatz like a worm of fun - and didn't just take aim at the traffic light policy.

Schongau - On Sunday (February 11th) all those maskers who slipped into warm full-body costumes to celebrate had a clear advantage.

The thermometer showed just five degrees shortly after 2 p.m. in Schongau, where the big parade with many creative floats and walking groups traditionally takes place on Carnival Sunday.

The weather didn't dampen the good mood: When the Gaudiwurm set off in the early afternoon and made his rounds through the old town, thousands of costumed people lined Schongau's Marienplatz.

There were 23 carnival floats and foot groups that made the audience smile this year with their satires of political and local issues.

Of course, the issue at the forefront was the Schongau Hospital, which will soon no longer exist in its current form, and the closure of the maternity ward.

Satire on the district administrator and hospital GmbH managing director

The Pro Hospital Schongau Action Alliance put district administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß and hospital GmbH managing director Thomas Lippmann as lovers in a romantic carriage that was supposed to take the two on their honeymoon.

The vehicle was pulled by members of the supervisory board, according to the motto: “For every nonsense, no matter how big, the supervisory board pulls the cart.” Behind the honeymoon duo trotted a resigned district council - their hands in chains.

The Peitinger rural youth also took up the hospital topic with a wink.

With the “re-opening of a mobile maternity ward” including a milk bar where you could “get drunk” after a successful birth, they offered an alternative to the closed ward in Schongau.

The rural youth from Altenstadt also worked particularly hard.

Under the motto “The helicopter can't land in Weilheim, but we're still closing the Schongau hospital,” the club built an elaborate carnival float over which two manned helicopters circled.

In the end it was chosen as the best car.

CSU Schongau taunts the federal government: As “traffic light men on a rampage”

In addition to local topics, there were also a few floats winding around Schongau's Marienplatz, which alluded critically to the traffic light government's policies.

The CSU Schongau group, for example, was a pirate team on their own “Black Pearl” – as “traffic light men on a raid”.

They had written on their pirate ship: “We sail around the world and waste money.”

Meanwhile, rural youth Reichling even wants to emigrate because of politics in Germany.

With a mobile “Beer King” they had built from Schinkenstrasse, the club was supposed to go straight to Ballermann in Mallorca.

The rural youth from Rott, who had registered for the Schongau Gaudiwurm at short notice, also made fun of the federal government.

The rotters paraded around Marienplatz as a colorful circus wagon (“Germany is the largest circus in the world”) complete with unicyclists and all sorts of animals.

The rural youth fools from Birkland approached their traffic light criticism a little more bluntly: with the slogan “Facts of physics: Ricarda Lang is not sustainable,” they attacked the Green politician because of her weight instead of getting into the substance.

Overall, all the floats and foot groups thrilled the maskers, who marveled at the performances of the guards after the Gaudiwurm.

The celebration lasted until the evening.
