In Baden-Württemberg there have been increasing cases in which supposed Ukrainian refugees have applied for citizenship benefit - even though they are not actually Ukrainians.
Stuttgart - Unlike asylum seekers or refugees from other countries, Ukrainians currently have a special status in Germany - they receive citizen's benefit from the start of their stay in this country.
In Baden-Württemberg, however, there have now apparently been cases in which supposed war refugees have fraudulently obtained social benefits even though they were actually not entitled to them.
This is reported by the
Schwäbische Zeitung
.
Citizens' benefit fraudsters are mostly Hungarians or Romanians
Specifically, in most cases these are said to be Hungarians and Romanians from the border region of Transcarpathia, who only have Ukrainian citizenship.
However, they are not entitled to the citizen's allowance privilege for Ukrainians.

As an inquiry by the
Schwäbische Zeitung
revealed, a total of more than 1,300 suspected cases of people posing as fake Ukrainians have been reported to the immigration authorities in the southwest since 2023.
Hungarian citizenship has now been established for 58 people.
Call for an end to direct access to citizen's money for Ukrainians

He also believes that an end to direct access to citizens' money makes sense.
This demand recently also came from CDU leader Friedrich Merz: “It was probably a mistake that we decided two years ago [...] that the Ukrainian refugees would also go into the citizen's allowance almost immediately,” Merz told n last
