Geolier said this on the occasion of the ceremony at the Maschio Angioino with which the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, awarded him the city's medal for the result obtained at the Sanremo Festival.

"I want to thank everyone and the mayor for their closeness to me and to the young people - said the second place winner at the Festival - we Neapolitans have always had this sense of unity. The rest matters little: I went to Sanremo with the aim of bringing the Neapolitan language and I succeeded, in the end the result matters little. I was happy with everything and I was grateful for the support I had from my city which was exaggerated."
Manfredi: 'With the popular vote Geolier would have won'
"A lot has been said, it is clear that if only the popular response had been valid, the victory would have been Geolier's. But how many cases have there been of artists who did not win Sanremo and then won in popular consensus, in the sale of records and today in downloads".
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, said this, commenting on the fact that Geolier, with 60 percent of the televoting votes, did not win Sanremo.
"Geolier is the expression of one of the many faces of our culture, of the musical culture of the city. It is right and natural that he should have this recognition and we will ask him for a strong commitment to send positive messages: we need a testimonial to speak to this great population of children, young people and we must do it with their language and their cultural expressions".
The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, said this on the occasion of the ceremony at the Maschio Angioino to award a plaque and the city medal to the young rapper Geolier for the result achieved at the Sanremo Festival.
"I was very sorry, not so much for the booing, but the gesture which was very serious was that of leaving the room. I believe that everyone must also have the courage to protest, but to respect people. This was stated by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, on the sidelines of the city medal award ceremony to Geolier in relation to what happened on the evening of the covers of the Sanremo Festival.
Manfredi also stigmatized the contrast that was made between the young Neapolitan and Angelina Mango.
"It should make us proud that two young people from the South represented the spearhead of the Festival - he added - this contrast is ungenerous towards Geolier but also towards Angelina".

"The mayor's motivations are really indigestible: Geolier spreads values and culture. He should have also called Giovanbattista Cutolo's mother and given a plaque for Giogiò, who represented Naples on the Ariston stage with Geolier".
With Corriere del Mezzogiorno online Daniela Di Maggio, the mother of Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young musician killed in Piazza Municipio last 31 August following an argument for trivial reasons, criticizes the choice of the Municipality of Naples to award an honor from the city to Geolier, the Neapolitan rapper who placed second at the Sanremo Festival.
The lady says she is "outraged" by Mayor Manfredi's choice not to give equal treatment to her son Giogiò: "You can't do something like this - his outburst -. This sends the wrong message".
Yet in recent days, characterized by controversy against Geolier, he had defended the author from the outskirts of Secondigliano, who had taken part in the boy's funeral, paying homage to his memory with a wreath of flowers: "I certainly defended him and I will defend Geolier - the woman reiterates again today - who is changing his way of writing and making music. Who also said that since Giogiò's death the kids have understood many things, that having a weapon is not the solution, that the kids of neighborhoods must change. Well, that was the objective. But rewarding only those who in the past held the golden Kalashnikov, that is Geolier, excluding one victim, Giogiò, is inconsistent, wrong. I wonder: what message do you, mayor of Naples, want to give? to the city? I'm outraged."
