Four people died Monday in the premises of a shipping company in the suburbs of Athens, including the perpetrator of the shooting who allegedly committed suicide, we learned from a police source.
The attacker burst into the building on Monday morning before firing shots and killing three people, two men and a woman, and barricading himself in the premises of European Product Carriers, according to this police source to AFP .
This man, whose identity has not been revealed, was presented by Greek media as a former dismissed employee of this company based in Glyfada, a seaside suburb of Athens.
He was then found dead
“in the basement of the building with his rifle next to him
,” according to the same source.
“According to initial information, it seems that he committed suicide
,” an employee of the police press office told AFP.
An important police force
The police had previously indicated that they had evacuated two women whom the attacker had locked in the toilet.
The shooting occurred Monday morning around 10:20 a.m. local (08:20 GMT) and a large police force was deployed around the business while the surrounding streets were closed off to traffic.
The shipping company European Product Carriers was founded in 1979 and has an average fleet of 35 vessels, according to its website, including many oil tankers.
In addition to Piraeus, a large port near Athens, many Greek and foreign shipping companies have premises in Glyfada, a seaside area in the south of Athens.
