A demonstration by university students is underway this morning in front of the historic headquarters of the humanities faculties of Palazzo Nuovo in Turin against harassment, with a demonstration organized by the 'Cambiarerotta' collective.
"Don't talk about bad apples against harassment for a new university in a company" reads a banner, which refers to the provision against a professor of the Philosophy department, who has been suspended since March 1 for alleged harassment and the professor of forensic medicine under house arrest for violence sexual.
"Today the philosophy professor is in the classroom giving a lesson", explain the students, who want to interrupt the lessons in the faculties this morning, on the first day of the semester.
"Victims never" is the most frequently chanted slogan.
"Today we are here to implement a student strike against the harassment that has occurred in the university and which has existed for a very long time, but which we know is the result of a rotten university model. - explains Erica, spokesperson for CambiareRotta -. We do not want to refer to a logical of research into rotten apples or witch hunts, as it often seems. We want to refer to the entire university model and this is why we are implementing a student strike. We refer to a system that promotes competition, careerism, elitization within the entire university and it is this that legitimizes gender violence and harassment like that of recent days."
