A photo of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni upside down was published among the stories of the Instagram profile of Luca Dell'Atti, president of the Ostuni museum, in the province of Brindisi.
And the provincial coordinator of
FdI, Luigi Caroli,
asks for her removal from office.
The photo is published among the profile stories in which there are also some references to the foibe and the controversies on Sanremo linked to the Middle Eastern conflict.
"We are faced with a shameful gesture of unprecedented gravity - attacks the provincial coordinator and regional councilor of Fratelli D'Italia, Luigi Caroli
- and it is necessary that the mayor of Ostuni and the administration immediately take steps to revoke the task conferred by little to whoever published that photo."
"Whoever decides to fill a role - attacks Caroli - must do so in a balanced, serene manner and with respect for the institutions".
After a chorus of criticism and controversy Luca Dell'Atti apologizes.
"To the Honorable Giorgia Meloni I offer my humane, sincere and heartfelt apologies for the image in very poor taste that I, improvidently, posted on my Instagram stories.
I did so in the impetus of a criticism (not very careful in the manner) of the positions taken by the Prime Minister with reference to the day of remembrance".
Luca Dell'Atti, president of the Ostuni museum, wrote this in a note,
having published the photo of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni upside down.
The photo sparked a lot of controversy and Fratelli d'Italia asked for her resignation.
"The lightness of my media gesture has nothing to do with my personality, which is anything but violent. My family, my political history, my profession, my friendships demonstrate - he adds - my complete distance from and violent messages of any kind. In clearer words: due to my values and my sensitivity, I couldn't even conceive of wishing someone's death."
Dell'Atti specifies that he apologizes "to all the people who respect and know me, to the museum institution and the Municipality of Ostuni if, out of instinctive superficiality, I gave someone the opportunity to question my seriousness and professionalism ".
"An Instagram story, however, has nothing to do with the management of the Ostuni museum. I recognize the total inappropriateness of the publication, which in fact - he continues - I took steps to remove, but I reject any accusation relating to the 'democratic viability' of the management of the museum, as some have said".
"I repeat: it was - states Dell'Atti - a slip of bad taste, which took place on a social network, which (also for personal reasons) I am used to managing as a personal space. Certainly not in the public square, or in the newspapers or even in the exercise of my functions representing the Museum".

The media dimension is completely disproportionate to the effectiveness of the gesture, considering the place, the moment and the channel through which it was conveyed
. This is why, once again, I apologize, with authentic conviction, but I am not willing - concludes - to allow my person and my figure to be tarnished due to an undue and out of control media reaction".
The request for resignation
"An image of Prime Minister Meloni upside down: certain language is deplorable and ignoble, even more so if it comes from someone who has the responsibility of presiding over a cultural institution or a museum. I express solidarity with President Meloni and I hope that Mr. Luca Dell'Atti come home soon. Italian culture certainly doesn't need him."
Thus the UDC senator and national president of the party
Antonio De Poli.

"The director of the Ostuni Museum has published a photo of President Meloni with his head downwards.
This time will the left break the wall of silence? They will ask for the resignation of a person whose profile is evidently more suited to frequenting the Askatasuna social center which to direct a municipal museum?
