LFI activists denounce “autocratic and vertical mechanisms” within the movement

Highlights: LFI activists denounce “autocratic and vertical mechanisms” within the movement. “The structure of LFI is not democratic. Power is concentrated in the hands of a few people not mandated by activists,” it is written. To remedy this, they are demanding the establishment of a “constituent assembly’ within LFI. This assembly would make it possible to “choose” and “revoke if necessary” the representatives of the movement, they say.

Gathered in a citizens’ assembly this weekend, activists from La France Insoumise called for “rebuilding” the movement for more internal democracy.

Insoumis activists, gathered this weekend in a citizens' assembly, wrote a letter addressed Monday to the management of LFI to call for a

"militant revolution"

and

"democratize"

the radical left movement in order to

"rebuild"

it .

These activists are among the 500 signatories of the call for a Sixth Republic within LFI, who regularly criticize the lack of internal democracy within the movement.

On Saturday, there were between 60 and 80 gathered in Gagny, in Seine-Saint-Denis, according to one of the co-organizers.

“We tried to have this debate internally, but we got no response,”

he explained to AFP.

The closing text of their meeting, which should be sent to management on Monday, denounces

“autocratic and vertical mechanisms”

within La France insoumise.

“The structure of LFI is not democratic.

Power is concentrated in the hands of a few people not mandated by activists

,” it is written.

To remedy this, they are demanding the establishment of a

“constituent assembly”

within LFI, the same type of Assembly that the Insoumis want to convene in the event of victory in the presidential election and the transition to the Sixth French Republic.

This assembly would make it possible to

“choose”

and

“revoke if necessary”

the representatives of the movement.

Few active activists

“Some of them are no longer even activists with us, they are an ultra-minority

,” said the coordinator of La France insoumise, Manuel Bompard, last week.

Before their meeting, these activists, some of whom say they had been excluded from LFI, received the support of rebellious MP Raquel Garrido, who is in opposition to the leadership, particularly on questions of internal democracy.

“The ethics and coherence of our commitment is to have a strong democratic requirement for our country and therefore for ourselves.

We must listen to and respect comrades who campaign voluntarily

,” she wrote on X.

La France insoumise was thought of and built as a

“gaseous”

movement where currents are not authorized and not as a party with classic structures.

There is therefore no membership card or contribution to pay.

During the last representative assembly of LFI in December, around 57,000 activists took part in the vote to approve the roadmap, which makes it possible to give an estimate of the number of active activists among the 370,000 “

registered”

claimed by the movement.
