No need to go to the police station to file a complaint.

After the massive theft of medical data of 33 million people, during cyberattacks targeting Viamedis and Almerys, two third-party payment management companies, victims now have the possibility of filing complaints online.

The authorities have made an electronic complaint letter form available to them, available on the website cybermalveillance.fr.

Once completed and signed, the document can be sent by secure transfer to the government website, by email to complaint-befti@interieur.gouv.fr or by post to the Judicial Police Department.

These complaints will complement those already filed by mutual insurance companies and service providers affected by the data leak at Viamedis and Almerys.

According to the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (Cnil), the stolen data concerns “for policyholders and their families, marital status, date of birth and social security number, name of health insurer as well as the guarantees of the contract entered into”.

Even if they do not allow attacks to be mounted on their own, if they are crossed with other files, this data is likely to be used in particular for phishing campaigns.

To be careful

The Paris prosecutor's office said on Friday that it had opened an investigation.

The complaints filed by the two companies had led to the opening of a preliminary investigation, announced the anti-cybercrime section of the capital's prosecutor's office.

The investigations, entrusted to the Cybercrime Brigade of the judicial police, relate to the offenses of breach of an automated data system, fraudulent collection of personal data and concealment of a crime.
